The Dublin transit website is not that straight forward to me so I just want to clarify a few things. I will use the bus system from the airport to my B&B near the Omni Shopping Centre. After dumping my bags, I will take the bus to the city centre (probably to Lower Abbey from what I can gather on the transit website) to look around before heading back to the B&B in the evening. Then the next morning, it's back to the airport.
Is it just a matter of paying the bus drivers directly with exact fare? If I don't know what the exact fare is for any of these routes above, I'm assuming that the driver will tell me?
Have a pocketfull of coins for your "exact fare". Tell the bus driver your destination and he or she will tell you the fare. You might want to pick up a bus schedule at the info desk at the airport or at the tourist office.
we always purchase a Dublin Bus Rambler pass, you can pick them up at the Dublin tourists bureau at the airport. We have purchased them for both two and three days. They are good for 24 hour days, and make life easy - no need to have change and you can ride as many times as you like.
Okay thanks everyone for your replies. The Rambler ticket is interesting. If I buy a one day pass at say 1 pm, does it expire 1 pm the next day or the end of the night on the day I buy it?
Okay folks, I just left Dublin and the Rambler pass is NOT good for 24 hours after all. I bought it at 3 pm and the next morning, wanted to use it to get back to the airport. I put it through the machine on the bus and the driver said that the pass was expired. Had to put in 1.50 (actually, 2 since I did not have change).
We should keep this fact straight for the future references.
Thanks for letting us know what happened. There are many things that can also invalidate a ticket. I recently had a ticket here in Atlanta good for several round-trip fares on MARTA. For some reason it became invalid and I don't know why. Fortunately it was not a trememdous expense. Hope you enjoyed your time in Dublin despite the glitch.
