Castlegregory or Dingle Town

Hello,
Does anyone see any advantage in staying at Castlegregory vs. Dingle?  I've read such raving reviews of The Shores B&B that I'm actually considering basing there for a couple days instead of Dingle.
Anyone out there feel passionately one way or the other? Can you tell me some of the basic differences in the towns or scenery?  I am leaning in one direction so you may just tip me over.

Would be an easy choice for me, but I'm not sure what you are looking for. Castlegregory only has about 200 people, it's on the north side of the peninsula going toward Tralee. Not much there compared to Dingle Town, which is a great place to go to eat, drink, and be merry. If Castlegregory intrigues you in some way, it is close enough to take a day trip to, but I can't imagine picking it as a place to stay over Dingle. If you want complete quiet surroundings perhaps, but if you want anything to do in a town, this isn't the place. There is a real nice golf course there, and it is an area with plenty of beach space, but again, I think it is a nice place to visit, not stay overnight.

Dingle is close to some of the most spectacular scenery (Slea Head Drive) in the country, as shown in the photo here. Combine the social scene in Dingle with the drives you can take right next to the town, and it is a great place to be.

There -- did a tip ya'? smile

You could do what we did and stay in both.
We spent one night at The Shores and two nights in Dingle at The Emlagh Lodge. We really liked both places and were happy we did it this way.

Kelly,

Two excellent perspectives there! And as Sidz says it depends on what you are looking for. Annette has made The Shores a destination in itself. Because the north shore of Dingle is slow and sleepy in order to run a successful B&B there she really needed a draw. By making her B&B one of Ireland's best, Annette gave people a reason to stay there.

If you are looking for a lively town with a pub culture, shopping, lots of restaurants, etc. then that is Dingle. You now have the dilemma of having to choose.

Tipped indeed Sidz! We'll base in Dingle. I've visited the peninsula before but was completely unfamiliar with Castlegregory. Thanks for the input Susan but we are really try to minimize carrying our suitcases. Thanks again Michele.

Kelly,

I have some good recommendations on my "Lodgings" page for Dingle.
