I am shipping two packages to Wicklow to the Ritz via FedEx and contents are giveaways for a Financial Conference. I have included a very detailed commercial invoice, and shipped International Priority. How strict is the import into Ireland and do you think there would be any problems at customs? How long does it take to clear customs? Shipped 8/14/08 FedEx says it will arrive on 8/18/08 with the conference on 8/22/08. Please let me know what you can.
I frequently ship to Ireland but use USPS instead of the private carriers since my target in Ireland says they are not reliable there. With USPS my parcels get there within the week. Canada Post, on the other hand...let's just say they try the Sisters' patience to the limit.
There shouldn't be any problem with what you are shipping clearing customs, but time might be a problem. Again, the problem was with shipments from Canada.
Welcome to my forum! I hope your conference goes well. Sometimes my packages go right through to Ireland and sometimes they do not. It all depends on the person who intercepts it at customs. I have had packages held up for weeks (even months) and others went right through.
I would be in constant contact with FedEx to be sure you package arrives.
Just now we have two packages from Canada via TNT stuck in Customs in Dublin awaiting clearance; for heading for a week now. ( our Mother House is in Canada and although there are special rules etc for Religious Orders, this still happens)
This happens with monotonous regularity. Via Fedex or whoever.
Also, Fedex and TNT etc say the packages will arrive in Ireland in three days; they mean Dublin.
Ireland is a backward place and they use small private firms outside Dublin. As Dude says.... words fail.
So it can take another two or three days depending on where you are. When you track it is will say, for here, "Remote area and deliveries are not made very day."
But Wicklow may be easier.
Sometimes they cannot find the address and take the stuff back. We now know the carrier's numbers and plague them.
Whereas the postal service from the US is great; and that has the advantage that An Post deliver nationally and they know every address.
And we have never had any Customs trouble ever using An Post.
As Dude says, within a week and sometimes four days. ( Thank you Dude for all you do for us in our work)
Just track online and be ready to call Fedex.
I would always use the regular postal service; unless sending from Canada:)
Anyone we know coming to Ireland will now carry things for us...
