Our son has a long break over Holy Week in April '09. We hope to visit Ireland from April 3 -13. Will we encounter any problems traveling during this time? Will all the sights be open around Easter? Thanks!
We were doing our first Green Blur Tour during Holy Week of 1993. The only problem we encountered was not being able to take the bus tour of Dublin that we had vouchers for, on Good Friday.
We also took dresses, heels, hose etc. (your son probably will not do this) for Easter Mass and found that everyone else was dressed pretty much like we did back home on regular Sundays--very casual.
As Dude has said the only problem day is Good Friday. On that day many things are closed including pubs. Depending on where you will be, most area restaurants may be closed too. However, hotel restaurants are open. On Easter Sunday a lot of Irish families eat out. Might be a good idea to have dining reservations.
I noticed on another post, you mentioned that attractions begin opening the middle of April. So if we travel early April, will things be open. . . Like a boat to the Aran Islands, Blarney Castle, etc? Thanks!
Most things will be open including the ones you mentioned. There are a few attractions in Ireland that only open in summer. But the major ones are open April - Oct or even all year. Just depends on the place. Each one has different opening times.
