Hello,

I have read many of the other forums and the advise you have given to other travels but I wanted to see if you could help me out as well. I thank you in advance for your feedback.

My husband and I are traveling into Dubin on the 11th and flying out on the 17th.  We are visiting and staying with friends while in Dublin.  I am thinking that 11th, 12th, in Dublin...13th, 14th, 15th, ???...and reutrn to Dublin for the night of the 16th. 

This will give us 3 nights and 4 days visiting the country.  I have been to Ireland for a quick trip in college (about 10years ago) and I stayed in Dublin but took a 'long' day trip to the Cliffs of Moher. 

I have somewhat of an understanding of the roads/timing and the driving in Ireland.  I am planning on renting a car. 

My husband has never been to Ireland or Europe so I would like for him to see as much of the culture as possible.  We are in our 30's but we like to be active; however, appreciated the age and beauty of the country. 

I am also looking for recommendations on places to stay.  I hear that B&B's are relatively easy to book last minute but I don't want to spend my 3 days looking for a place to stay.

Kourtney,

Welcome to my forum! How nice that you will get to visit friends in Dublin. That will be a big savings on your trip. I assume you are visiting in Oct?

With only three nights I would stick close to the east coast instead of trying to do a marathon drive around Ireland. Take a look at Co. Wicklow (just south of Dublin). It is very scenic with mountains, woods and lakes. There is plenty to keep you busy if you like historic sites and gardens.

If you go to my Lodgings page you will find plenty of B&Bs that I recommend. If you want a specific recommendation, let me know.

Michele,

THanks for your reply.  Yes we will be there in October (in just two weeks) smile

I will look at your lodging page.  I saw many of your recommendations in other postings. 

Prior to speaking to you, we were thinking about 'bouncing' around a little more staying at a different location/city each night.  Do you feel that there is 3 days/nights worth of activity in Wicklow?

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to be on the move perhaps a night in Glendalough and two in Kilkenny. I think that would be perfect.

Kourtney,

If you decide on Kilkenny, I would suggest Lawcus Farm for lodging. It isn't in Kilkenny proper but is close enough to make for a worthwhile experience.

There is quite a bit to keep you occupied in and around Kilkenny. Corey & Liam over at Irishfireside.com have provided an excellent self-guided walking tour of Kilkenny.

For something nearby Kilkenny City try Laragh House & Rosquill. Both are very nice.
