Meeting Cowboycraic

I thought you all might like to see Bit (aka Cowboycraic) in two of our Irish-American Roadtrip videos. We had a great time visiting her, and she was an amazing host.

There will be one more coming up with her in it, but it'll be a bit before we finish editing. Meanwhile, enjoy (note - the clips are best viewed in HQ or HD...there should be links in the play bar, or you can double click the video for the YouTube page with an HD link)

Tell me those are not real oranges?

Here we are in the icy chill and deluges of a Donegal winter, and there are  you picking oranges?

Ah well!

Blessings to all of you

Those are indeed real oranges, hanging ripe and tempting, in my momma's garden. Those fruit trees have been around at least as long as I have!

Liam couldn't get over the fact that he was picking them in January either.

I hope you find another Flag for Fiona, Corey. She shouldn't wander about the country half dressed! It wouldn't be proper!

Gem show starts this weekend and I find myself wishing you were here.

Ahhh well, you are having the time of it discovering how Irish we American borns can be.  biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Anchoress, We can always smuggle over oranges from Oregon -- probably grown in California or Oregon -- when we see you??? Well, at least we can try -- we'll see how they survive "on the road" for a few weeks......smile   Our Navels are in right now -- can always depend on them in January!  Sweet, juicy and big.  Let me know.....youngka

Corey,

After a very hectic few days I finally had the time to look at your videos. Boy, those scones looked good. Maybe Bit will share her recipies with us.

The oranges were huge and heavy on the trees in Florida too. We have such vast climate differences in the US that we can be having blizzards in one part and tropical fruit in another.

What was in that Ladies room that Liam inspected? It looked like dead bodies or something equally gross.

Youngka;  that is kind, but citrus and I sadly do not agree...

It is the thought of oranges growing there in January....or at any time of the year.

Blessings this day from cold Donegal.

Here you go Michele:

Gran's Scones

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 TBSP vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (or substitute dried or fresh berries)

DIRECTIONS:

In a large bowl, combine the first six ingredients. add vanilla, egg and butter. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Fold in chocolate chips. Drop by heaping tablespoonfuls 2 in. apart onto a greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees F for 15-18 minutes or until lightly browned.

I use a pastry dough blender to cut the dry ingredients as I blend them. This makes for a light & fluffy scone.

Slan Beo,

Bit

Those scones were as good as they look.

It's amazing that we went from 40 below zero in Minneapolis to 70s in Arizona and California. We have enjoyed fresh-picked oranges, grapefruits, blood oranges...we also have lemons, but those require some prep...I don't have it in me to suck down a lemon au-natural.

Bit also appears in this video below (and there will likely be another in the future because she was loaded with all kinds of interesting tidbits).
