I recently found this forum, and have been thoroughly enjoying all the great information! My husband and I will be taking our first ever trip to Ireland this April (I'll post questions/info on that separately). We both have Irish ancestors, but I'm embarrased to say I'm not well versed in Ireland's history.
So, I'm looking for a book (or two) that is easy to read but gives a good overview of the country's history so I'm a little more informed (and can plan a better trip). I'd love to hear your recommendations.
Welcome to my forum! Glad to hear you are enjoying reading all the posts and info. Bob gave you info about an old post about historical fiction. But you want the history of Ireland.
Try some of the ones below:
The Course of Irish History by T. W. Moody How the Irish Saved Civilization by Thomas Cahill The Oxford History of Ireland by R.F. Foster
You would ask this question when my Irish book collection is in boxes as I redo my office. Once I put them back on the shelf I will add to the list.
A book that I highly recommend is, "In Search of Ancient Ireland: The Origins of the Irish from Neolithic times to the coming of the English." by Carmel McCaffrey & Leo Eaton. Very interesting and enjoyable reading.
