Hello All, I'm happily finishing up the details for my third trip and my fella's first trip to Ireland beginning in May. Since I'll be sharing with him some of my favorite places, we'd both like for me to be able to do something/go somewhere I haven't been. I'd dearly love to get to Skellig Michael. I know that trips are weather dependent. Here's the deal, we are basing in Dingle for three nights/days. Has anyone made the trip to Portmagee (Skellig Michael) and back from Dingle? Was it murderous? Was it just fine? This will be nearly a week into the trip so there should be no jet-lag problem. And while we recently drove from Michigan to Florida straight through (we WERE nuts!) I am just wondering if this might be realistic... Opinions?
Many of the boats leave early for Skellig Michael. Do you have a departure time from your chosen tour operator? If it were me I would stay on the Ring of Kerry nearby my departure point. That way you can get up, have breakfast and get on the boat. If you drive from Dingle you will have to make a very early pre-breakfast departure for your drive and rush to the boat. There are no facilities on the island for food or even toilets.
What do you say about 2 nights in Dingle and one on the ROK?
Michelle, When do you sleep??? I thought about a night on the ROK but since the trips are weather dependent that might not be a good gamble either. Argh. The only reason I wanted to venture there (this trip) was to try to get to Skellig Michael. I have no firm reservations as yet but the captain I've contacted usually leave between 10:20 - 10:30. Thanks for your help.
