Any information on Zetland Country House?

My wife and me are traveling to Ireland in May and have one night scheduled at the Zetland Country House.  I have read some not-so-good reviews that are fairly recent. I know that sometimes these reviews are written by people who are looking for things to complain about instead of enjoying their vacation, but I am still a little concerned.  Any information about this property would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rhett

Rhett,

I have not visited Zetland House but have had feedback that it is on the shabby side and in need of some updates. That happens with many old Irish country manors if money is not reinvested back into them.

What are you looking for with your Connemara experience? Perhaps I can recommend another place that will suit you better.

Thanks for the info, Michele.  We really don't have anything specific in mind when we visit Connemara, so any suggestions you may have would be great.

We are spending our first two nights in Doolin at the Churchfield B&B, the third night in Connemara, fourth and fifth nights in Dingle at the Dunlavin House B&B and our last night at Dromoland. This will be our first visit to Ireland and are looking forward to seeing a few sights and relaxing, so we are definitely open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Rhett

Rhett - Buttermilk Inn www.buttermilklodge.com is a really nice place in Clifden. Also, in Roundstone is http://www.connemara.net/stjosephs. We have stayed at the Buttermilk, Bit Devine recommended the place in Roundstone. We have been to Roundstone; however, have not stayed for the nite. youngka   Both towns are really nice to walk around, good picture taking.....Kylemore Abbey is a good place to stop and see, as is Westport, if you get that far.

Rhett,

You might try some of the following:

Ballynahinch Castle Hotel (not a real castle but a fishing lodge)
Seamist House in Clifden (right in town)
Ivy Rock House in Roundstone (lovely views)
Ashford Castle in Cong

We have decided on Buttermilk Lodge. Thanks to all of you for the suggestions.  I do have another question.  Our car rental appears to be a Class J from Thrifty Car Rental which according to their website is a Nissan Micra.  This car seems to be VERY small.  Is this OK for two people and luggage or should I upgrade to something a bit larger?

If an upgrade is recommended, should I try to upgrade now (the car is already paid for through Authentic Ireland Travel) or wait until we get there to attempt to upgrade?

Thanks for all of your help-we are getting very excited as our trip is just a little more than two months away.

rhettlaf You will like the Buttermilk. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the livingroom upon your arrival and the nice warm fire. The owners are very nice, we are staying there for one night in May......have a good trip......

Hi! I just checked my calendar we will be at the Buttermilk -- May 14th & 15th. Too bad we are not there the same time....blankstare
The 25th we will be in Ardeen, up by Londonderry, at a self catering place we have for one week. Youngka

Rhett,

I have heard very good things about Buttermilk Lodge. Hope you have a good stay there. Too bad your and Youngka's schedules don't work for a meeting.

As for the car, it is very small. I would upgrade now. That way you have the upgrade reserved and don't have to deal with it on arrival off an overnight flight when you are jet-lagged.
