honeymoon in June

Hello--

This is a great site and I have learned lots from reading.  Thanks.  I am getting married in June and we will be honeymooning in Ireland.  We arrive the morning of June 8 (Monday) and fly out the following Sunday (June 14th).  We have already purchased tickets to fly into and out of Dublin.  We need some help with where to go and where to stay.
We would like to see as much of Ireland as possible , while still enjoying ourselves and not feeling rushed.  We are open to renting a car or doing bus tours.
Can you please help so that we can make the most of our Honeymoon.  Thanks so much

Lisa

Lisa,

Welcome to my forum! I am glad that you are enjoying the site. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage.

The first thing you should do is decide on whether you want to do a tour or rent a car and drive yourselves around. I have a the pros and cons of both on my FAQs page. Just click on "IrelandYes Index" and you can go to that page.

I think if I were on my honeymoon, I would prefer to do a self-drive as opposed to a bus tour. After all it is a special time for you alone. Rather than spending it with a group of people, you probably want to have time to yourselves and not have to keep to a strict schedule.

Do you have any ideas of what you want to see and do in Ireland? If not, my book would be of great help. You can click on the link just under my name for more info.

Let us know your likes and dislikes and which places are calling to you, and we will do our best to help make your honeymoon special.

Michele

Thanks Michele for getting back with me.
After reading more info on your site, I think that we have decided to rent a car and go it on our own. We arrive in Dublin on Monday morning so we were thinking of spending Monday and part of Tuesday in Dublin, renting a car and heading over to Galway Tuesday afternoon. Then we were thinking we would stay in Galway for 2 nights and see that area then head down the coast and see the Cliffs of Moher, etc and then stay in Shannon for a night. Friday morning head on down to Dingle and Killarney and stay in Killarney Friday night. Then we were thinking on Saturday we could head back up the east coast thru Waterport and up the coast thru Wickens and back to Dublin to leave out on Sunday.

Does that sound feasible? Both of us will be driving. If that does sound feasible, can you recommend some good (but not too expensive) places to stay?
Thanks so much!
Lisa

Lielsa, my husband and I are making our first trip to Ireland next month.  I jump on this forum to stay in touch with travel advice and just to read what some really interesting folk have to say.  But I also take the opportunity to encourage newbies to BUY MICHELE'S BOOK!  I purchased it after buying maybe 4 others, and I will tell you I could have saved my money.  The others are more glitzy, but none of them comes close to giving the specifics in Michele's. smile

Lisa,

I suggest you cut out either Galway or Dingle/Killarney. You just don't have enough time to do them all justice. You would be spending a lot of time drivng in the car. Choose one area and enjoy it. You don't want a "green blur tour" of Ireland on your honeymoon. Slow, down and savor what you do see.

Another alternative: Fly into Dublin and out of Shannon. That cuts out long cross-country drives.

Michele

P.S. Rebecca, Thanks for your kind words about my book. Definitely not glitzy! But it is packed with over 35 years worth of wisdom.
