week-long trip

Okay, so I have an interesting situation here.  I'm currently living on Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands, and have my two sisters coming to visit in a month or so for two weeks.  (we are 22,21,and 17)

I want to show them the highlights of Ireland, but also get to know the island where I'm living so I'm thinking a pretty even split between travelling ireland in general and the island.  Also, it will be cheaper to stay on the island.

Since I've seen so much of the country, I have personal attachments to many places, but don't want to base what they see on my experiences.  They'll most likely be flying in and out of Dublin, though possibly Shannon if I have them use aerlingus.

So basically I'm wanting advice on the most 'must-see' things I should take my sisters to see.  And we will either be using a car I have access to or renting for the trip.

Oh, and one other thing...though we are on a serious budget (students, after all), I'd LOVE to have us stay in one of the castle hotels for at least a night or two, just for the experience.  But I want to make sure that we find one that wil truly be an 'experience.'

Hope all that makes sense!
Thanks, Amy

Amy,

Welcome to my forum. So you will have a week on Inish Mor and a week for the "highlights" of Ireland? Since you are in the west, it probably makes most sense for your sisters to fly into and out of Shannon.

Have you had a look at my Top 10 List? It might give you some ideas as to the highlights. With only a week you probably will be better off concentrating on the west and SW. Connemara, Cliffs of Moher, Dingle, Killarney or Kenmare would fill your time nicely.

For a castle "experience" probably Ashford would fulfill your dreams.

What do you think?

Michele

Amy,

I second Michele's suggestion of Ashford Castle. We loved it there, one night wasn't enough. If you are ever only going to stay in a castle once in your life, Ashford is absolutely worth the expense; beautiful castle, first class service, magnificent grounds, and all within a comfortable walk to the lovely little village of Cong.

Regards,
Meredith
