We are planning a trip in August and looking for a B&B or inexpensive hotel near Shannon with beds that are queen- or King-sized. A fuill sized bed is too small for comfort. Any suggestions for a B&B?
Also, almost every lodging listing I look at states that a room is either s single or double bed. Is there a standard definition of "double bed"? I always assumed that it was a full sized bed, but it seems to be rather variable?
AdamD, A lot of people stay at Bunratty Lodge which has two queens which we chose. I am not sure if they had any King size beds; however, just write to Mary and she will answer pretty fast. "Queen size and double rooms are available as well as twins and family rooms." ** http://www.bunrattylodge.com/ Good luck, but I am sure someone will be writing you about other choices. youngka ** from Mary's site

Contact Bunratty Lodge or Headley Court in Bunratty. Most Irish B&Bs have double beds. Very few have kings. Since I am used to an American king when I am traveling in Ireland I always request a room with two beds (unless I know the place and they have actual kings).
In Ireland:
A double bed is just that A twin room: two twin beds King: What the Irish call a king can be a double or a queen. Super King: an actual American king
It is very confusing. Best to ask for measurements. An American king is about 6 feet wide. A queen is about 5 feet wide.
