self-catering in Baltimore-Skibbereen area?

I know this is sort of "off the beaten path" for many.  I want to spend some time in the area because of an O'Driscoll family connection - and it just occurred to me that a self-catering might be nice in the middle of our trip.  Does anybody have any experience in the area?   I did find a few possibilities on the web but thought I'd ask before I contacted them!

It is rather last minute (for 2 weeks from now) but it is early in the season yet so we may luck out.

Thanks -

Barb

Pity that you couldn't have waited about a month, when the annual O'Driscoll Clan Gathering is scheduled ....

Wife's Grandmother was an O'Driscoll from just up the road, in Drimoleague. We attended the Gathering in '07. Drop into Bushe's Bar for a pint -- the missus is/was an O'Driscoll.

We self-catered on Sheep's Head, which is a BIT too far afield. Wojazz spent some time in Castletownsend, but that's also a stretch. Usually when we are in the area we either B&B or stay with family.

It's a great area. LOTS to see and do and WELL worth a week or more.

I self catered at the castle in Castletownshend. It's really quite an experience and I made it into Baltimore a number of times. Off season prices at Castletownshend were quite affordable and I had a great time. I've stayed at a B&B in Baltimore also.

I did see that event when I was doing some browsing about the O"Driscoll's but we had already booked this trip - maybe another year.  My great grandmother was an American-born Driscoll but her father [one of the hundreds of Dennis Michael O'Driscolls] was (allegedly) born in Baltimore IE in 1840.  Which, according to family lore, is why he settled his family in Baltimore MD after emigrating.  None in our family has really been "into" geneology but they have always talked about our pirate ancestors so I need to go visit the home grounds as it were.

We did find a self-catering place between Baltimore and Skibbereen that would let us book just 3 nights - I will report back in a few weeks!

Barb,

I'm glad you found a self-catering unit in the area you are interested in. I have not personally rented a cottage in that area so we will be interested in your feedback. What is the star rating?
