My first trip to Ireland.

Hi All,

My husband and I along with another couple are leaving for Ireland on May 22. The "other couple" used their travel agent to book the flight and hotels. Since this is our (hubby and I) first international trip, we let our seasoned friends take the reins. We really do not have any plans on what to see, just our flight and hotel information. If any one would like to suggest things we must see around the areas we are staying I WOULD FOREVER BE GRATEFUL!

Here is the very wide-open itinerary

We arrive in Dublin at 8:40 AM Saturday May 23.

Cassidys Hotel
6 Cavendish Row
2-Nights
We will not have a car while in Dublin.

Pick up rental car at Dublin airport May 25 A.M.

Dundrum House Hotel
Dundrum Cashel County Tipperary
3-Nights

Old Ground Hotel
O Connel Street
Ennis County Clare
3-Nights

Drop off car and depart from Shannon on Sunday May 31 A.M

Our intent was to do "day trips" but always return to our hotel in the evening (even if it is late). We are not ones to  stay in a different place every night. A more relaxing leisurely trip is expected. Any suggestions?

I love this site! I wish I would have found it prior the travel agent decision. I would have just booked the air myself and used this site to plan an itinerary. Oh well to late, but I am hoping I can still get some great day trip ideas using the three cities as a "hub". Thanks so much!

Caralynn,

Welcome to my forum. Your itinerary is not bad. You certainly have quite a few opportunities for day trips from where you are staying.

For Dublin I recommend a hop-on hop-off bus tour. For other options take a look at this site: http://www.visitdublin.com/ It will give you many options to choose from.

From Dundrum:

Rock of Cashel
Cahir Castle
Swiss Cottage
Vee Drive
Kilkenny

From Ennis:

Bunratty Castle & Folk Park
The Music Pubs in Ennis
Cliffs of Moher
Burren
Aillwee Cave
Poulnabrone Dolmen
Loop Head

Have fun and let us know how it goes and how you enjoy the hotels your friends have chosen.

Michele

I'll add just a couple of suggestions around Ennis. Knappogue Castle and gardens and Craggaunowen. Clearly you can't do everything listed, but you have a nice relaxed schedule.

Thank you so much for the suggestions. I will look into each and every one of them and present them to the group. Again, this is a wonderful site and if anyone else has anything to add or if anyone has any helpful tips I would love to hear them. Caralynn
