Carry-On Luggage? - 5 more days!!

First of all, wow! I remember finding this website months ago when I was first planning my trip and now we are leaving on Saturday!! Thanks everyone for the helpful topics.

I know there was a recent topic about carrying-on on Aer Lingus...
My problem is that we are flying Jet Blue from Houston to New York, then switching to Aer Lingus... with lengthy layovers in New York and a short one in Shannon. I just don't want to check my bags.

So my question is, my husband and I are each planning to take a carry-on (which I took to Mexico over Spring Break without a problem) and I was planning on a taking an additional large purse (and wearing my heaviest shoes & jacket on the plane lol) I don't think there will be a problem with the additional bag, but I am concerned because EVERYONE I talk to keeps telling me it's impossible to carry-on for a 9 day trip (well 10 days but one is spent flying). So I need to know from experienced carry-on travelers, is this possible?! Can I pack for 10 days in a carry-on, or should I suck it up and check my bag?

Thank you! I CAN'T WAIT for Saturday. It feels like Christmas.

Firstly, MICHELE just returned from staying a whole MONTH -- with just a Carry-On!  So, yes, it IS possible.  biggrin

But, as a mere mortal, MY advice is to not be afraid to fill all your coat pockets, too.  yawn yawn

I wouldn't be afraid to check ONE bag -- just make sure that all your ESSENTIALS are in the carry ons.

Congrats on leaving so soon.  smile

We don't depart until Friday, 12 June -- furious furious -- but, we ARE 'sneaking down' to the airport the night before (Thursday, the 11th) to ease the stress on departure day.   (At least, that's my EXCUSE!  biggrin biggrin  )  We actually got a very good deal -- staying the night before and the night we return at a Hawthorne Suites only 1.8 miles from the airport -- with free, 24 hour shuttle, full breakfast and parking for the duration -- for only $60 more -- TOTAL -- than what the airport charges for their long-term parking!!! smile smile

For us, it was a 'No-Brainer'! confuse confuse

ENJOY!

Bob

EVERYONE I talk to keeps telling me it's impossible to carry-on for a 9 day trip (well 10 days but one is spent flying)

I packed for 15 days in a carry-on size (21") suitcase + daypack.  It was fine.   I brought primarily meds and clothes and was brutal about the "extras" that I typically would bring (e.g. lots of books and several pairs of shoes).   We did laundry half way through but for 9 days, sure you can do it.   I also did exactly what you suggested - I wore the heavy shoes and wore/carried my fleece jacket.  Worked perfectly.

I travelled with 2 other people who did the same thing - we each had a carry-on size suitcase and small backpack.  You can do it.

Have a great trip!

ahillhouse & Bob --- have a wonderful trip, time to leave will be here very fast.....hope you have good weather also!!  Bob, I'd put out the $60 for that kind of a deal!!!
ahillhouse -- I made a trip for 5 weeks to Germany with one bag, it works, just do hand laundry, now and then, and leave clothes one time at a laundry (if you find one) and you will be all set. youngka
