We want to visit the Giants Causeway and the other attractions in this area.So we are planning an overnite in the Portrush area June 23.We need a place for the night any suggestions.
June 27 to July 1
We will stop at Trim Castle on our way to Dublin. We are staying in Ballsbridge and will take the Luas into the city center.Does anyone know how the Luas works. Is it like the metro in D.C.?We will do the hop/on hop/off one day also.
For the Giant's Causeway I have a couple of recommendations in the area. Crockatinny in Ballycastle and Ballycarton House in Limavady. I don't have a recommendation right in Portrush. See my Lodgings page for the links.
Your self-catering house looks very nice. You will have to tell us about it on your return.
I would suggest Crockatinney Guesthouse, as well. It is my favorite place to stay when I am in that area. It has a famine graveyard on the property and is within a short walk to the ruins of Kenbane Castle.
The guesthouse itself is very comfortable. The rates are quite reasonable. The McGinn's are fantastic hosts and well versed in the history and folklore of the area.
OK one more question- Is the Horseshoe Drive marked with a sign?I have directions from another post ,but in 06 we could not find the VEE with 2 sets of direction and saw a sign!!
I, too have stayed at and recommend Crockatinney (in '07 -- based on Michele's recommendation.
As to your Westport question -- According to http://www.aaireland.ie/routes it is 81.6 miles from Ballinaglera, Leitrim to Westport, Mayo. They call it as just shy of 2.5 hours drive time, but I suspect it might be 3 hours and perhaps, a touch more.
That IS one-way, so it MIGHT work out to right around 6 hours driving, round-trip, but if you made an early start, you would likely have LOTS of daylight -- enough to safely allow 5-6 hours in and around Westport.
Highlights (for me) in and around Westport might be Croagh Patrick, Westport House, Matt Malloy's, Museum of Country Life and the VERY near-by Turlough Abbey and Round Tower.
Can't help with Horseshoe Drive, but a Google Search turned up these:

Enjoy -- and Safe Home.

As Bob has said a day trip to Westport is doable with an early start. There is lots to see along the way. I really enjoyed the Musuem of Country Life outside Castlebar.
I did see a sign for the Gleniff Horseshoe Drive last time. Hopefully it is still there. It is on the main Sligo/Donegal road.
We have booked Crockatinny in Ballycastle for June 23 (they are a little slow with email).Thank you all for the recommendation-Michele I will let them know that you sent us there.
I'm glad you got into Crockatinny. Hope you got a room with a balcony. There are beautiful ocean views. A lot of places in Ireland are slow with emails.
