Aer Lingus Shannon- Chicago route

Has anyone had experience with the Shannon to Chicago route on Aer Lingus? I read that the direct route was going to be reinstated, but on the Aer Lingus website, it comes up with a 6 hour layover in Dublin.

I fly that route all the time.

Whether it stops in Shannon or Dublin first depends on the day of travel (some days they are running two flights - the direct to Shannon flight leaves at 4:45, the Dublin layover leaves at 6:50).

When I checked for dates in July, the flight arrives in Dublin at 8:30 and takes off for Shannon at 11:30... which is still longer than the 45-minute layover of the past, but not a 6-hour delay (you could take the bus from Dublin and get to Shannon quicker)

Carrie,

I haven't flown that route but Corey has given you his first-hand info about it. Hope it works out for your trip.

Hi and thanks for the responses. I'm actually looking at the return to Chicago flight from Shannon. The flight from Shannon leaves at 7am for Dublin where there is the 6 hour layover. You use to be able to fly direct from Shannon to Chicago, which was very nice.  Not to mention you didn't have to get up at 5am or earlier to catch that 7am flight.

I take it you are looking at flights for 2010. At this time, it looks like no airlines are planning to fly direct to Shannon in the early part of next year. sadangel.gif

The options might change in the upcoming months... but the killer is that 6hr layover.

Carrie,

Have you thought of flying out of Dublin instead? That would avoid the 6 hour layover. I am not too happy about the changes in flights either. It seems that most airllines are giving Shannon the cold shoulder these days.

Hi Michele, Yes I am thinking of driving to Dublin the day before and flying out from there. It's just a shame. I much prefer Shannon.

Carrie,

My thanks to Corey for the article. Airline route are ever changing. I hate coming and going from Dublin too. Shannon is soooo easy. But what are we to do? We have to go where the flights are.

I recommend Premier Inn near Dublin Airport.
