You recommended Kemwel rental car but their rates online appear higher than most and include Full CDW. Dan Dooley has been the lowest so far, followed by Europcar. Any advantages of one over the other? Is driving there really as bad as the travel books claim? Also, we ordered your book on June 21st. Is there anyway to track it's progress? We paid via paypal. Thank you, Vickie
I do recommend Kemwel. But one of the most important things I say on my Car Rental page is "Shop around. Take your best quote". If you are finding better prices elsewhere, then go with that company.
Kemwel offers either an "inclusive" rate, which includes CDW or a "basic" rate, which does not include CDW. I just looked at their website. For a week in Sept their basic rate for a small car is $118.84. For the inclusive rate $319.96. The prices are in US dollars not euros.
I would recommend taking your lowest rate as long as you understand all the fine print and have compared it with the other companies.
If you email me your name I will be able to tell you when your book was mailed. If you ordered on Sunday June 21 it most likely was sent on Monday June 22.
I am also needing a car for a week in Sept. (Actually 5 days) Sept.11-15 and was quoted $377 in US dollars for a standard size car exclusive of insuranc since I am using a Capital One Platinum No Hassle Miles Reward card. I realize I am not booking a small car but the quote you found sure is cheap for a small car for a whole week!!!! I wonder is my quote is so much more because Im renting at Shannon airport and dropping at Dublin Airport??? Any comments? Thanks
Your book was sent to you on 6-22-09. You should have it today or tomorrow.
Beachcomber,
I just went to my Car Rental page, clicked through to Kemwel, input dates for a week in Sept and got that price. It was for their smallest car. I find that sometimes if you have been looking at multiple car sites it is best to clear your computer's cookies, URL history, browser history and cache. In fact I do that after each car website. Just a little trick I discovered over the years.
Okay, I just input your dates and for a manual Opal Vectra got a price of $221.24. Automatic Toyota Avensis $318.97. For a small manual $95.07.
Getting car quotes is like getting airfares. They are different all the time.
Thanks for the tips Michele. I tried again and received a favorable rate through Kemwel for an Avis car. $377. US dollars exclusive of CDW but it does include extra driver. (I can't be doing all the driving !!!!) I want to enjoy the pretty scenery some of the time instead of keeping my eyes glued on those narrow roads.
