We're back, thanks to all

Hi everyone,
We got home early Thursday morning (1:30 am) from our two weeks in Southwest Ireland.

Thanks many times to Michele and her itinerary, and also thanks to everyone who had advice and those who post.  I read them all.

Michele, we met Mary Fox in Kilmalock and showed her the entry from your book.  She was very exicted and photocopied the listing.  For this, we got to use her personal WC in the portable building that houses her office.  We think we got the best of the deal!

When we picked up our car, we were on board for an automatic transmission, but my son told them he would just as soon have a standard.  We got the standard and they threw in a GPS free of charge.  The standard really helped out on the 3 peninsulas, especially Beara where we encountered a detour.

Hint for the GPS, just set it up, don't try to plug in destinations, it's little cvar will just go along with you and it notes the numbers of all the roads.  Worked wonderfully well.  If you put in destinations and then try to go a different way, the thing gets real pouty.  We never turned on the sound.

Our favorite town, Dingle.  Maybe it is because we found Michael Herlihy and his music store.  Sondra, the daughter got a chance to accompany him and his button accordion on the bodhran.

Our favorite peninsula, Beara, and Glen Inchaquin Park.  We got a personal tour from the fellow who owns it.  The falls are spectacular, it all looks unreal.

Our favorite restaurant, Vintage in Kinsale.

Can't decide on a favorite pub, but really appreciated the early sessions in Kinsale, we poop out around 10 or so no matter how hard we try to stay up.

We had a mini computer with us, had to hunt around for wifi, but managed to access it every couple of days.

http://www.fuzzytravel.com/shodson2/ is the journal Sondra kept.  She's still editing some, especially typos.

Thanks again to everyone, can't wait to go back.

Dee in Southern California.,

Mara,

Welcome back! I read some of your daughter's blog before it went down. Most enjoyable. I will try again to finish up and look at her photos.

I am delighted that you had a good trip and saw some off-the-beaten-plath places. I have met Mary Fox twice and she is so enthustiastic about her small museum and Kilmallock. It is a place few get to but worth the journey.

I know the problem of the late sessions at pubs. I tend to be an early bird in Ireland too. Have to get up early for those massive breakfasts and to get a jump on the day.

If you have the time we would love a mini trip report. Just tell us your favorites and highlights.

Michele
