My wife and I are going to be in Dublin for several days with work. We are coming over early to spend a few days on our own in Ireland before the company functions begin. We will be arriving in Dublin at 8:30am on August 9. We have to be back in Dublin by around noon on August 12. That means we have Sunday, Sunday night, Monday, Monday night, Tuesday, and Tuesday night to spend on our own.
We would like to get to Clare to spend time taking the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. We may also want to get to Galway. We would also like to get down to Kerry to spend time around Killarney and possibly do the Ring of Kerry. That's alot of stuff and seems like a lot of driving to do in such a short period of time.
Our delima is, should we just decide to try to do it all or would we be happier choosing few things to do and doing them at a more relaxed pace?
Welcome to my forum. What many people do not relalize about Ireland is that it takes a long time to drive around the country. It looks like a very small island but you will average 35 mph. For instance drive time from Dublin to Galway is about 4 hours, depending of course on traffic.
If you want to enjoy your time more, I suggest doing less things. Choose a couple of things that are most important to you. Note where they are on the map. Try to choose just one section of Ireland to visit in your short time. Concentrate on either the SW or the west.
Thanks for ordering my book. I think it will be of great help with your planning. Once you read through it, let me know if you need more info or suggestions.
