We are going Ireland in September, we will not be traveling in Dublin area. Do you advise prepaid vouchers for B&B's or paying cash? Also, we will be staying for 10 nights, we would like to stay in hotels a couple of nights, but the prices have gone out of the roof since the last time we visited in 2003. Do you have any secrets you can share with us?
I've used vouchers twice in the past (once in Ireland, and once in the UK), and while they are somewhat convenient at first glance, I found them more restricting than just finding places on my own. In this day and age, many B&Bs have websites, so it is much easier to find the perfect spot on your own.
I don't normally do hotels except in London or Dublin, but in the past I've gotten great values at Priceline - like 4* hotels for $75 a night :)

I agree on not using vouchers. You can easily find B&Bs to check out, either through this site or via Internet searches. I try to stay away from hotels in Ireland, as I like the personal touch of the B&B and the price is normally much cheaper than hotels. That being said, I think some hotels are running some good specials now to try and address the drop in travelers to Ireland.
If you stay away from Dublin, you should be able to stay at most B&Bs for somewhere in the 35-45 Euro PPS range. But vouchers might actually cost you more and would certainly limit your choices.
If you do a search on this site for Vouchers, you will get plenty of threads that have talked about this over the years. It has been debated often on this forum.

Welcome to my forum. Vouchers will always greatly restrict where you can stay. Before purchasing find out how much they will cost. If vouchers are part of a fly/drive/voucher package you will need to see if it is an excellent deal in order to know if it will be more advantageous for you to pay cash or purchase the package. Some packages only have vouchers for B&Bs. Others have a mix of B&Bs and hotels. Since you want to stay at some hotels you need to find out what the voucher package includes and what type of vouchers you are purchasing. As you see, there is lots to consider with vouchers and that is just the tip of the iceberg.
Personally, I prefer to pay cash.
There are many specials at Irish hotels right now. I have some listed on my forum and website. Most deals are good for two or more nights and may include dinner on one night. Click to the hotel you are interested in and look for the section saying Special Offers. You might also email the hotel directly inquiring if they have some better rates.
