I am attempting to purchase train tickets from Dublin to Killarney and don't know how quickly after landing at 8:30am I will clear customs. Any thoughts?
It will all depend, of course, on the day of the week, but it USUALLY takes 30-40 minutes, or less.
Bear in mind, however, that the train to Killarney departs from heuston Station, on the Westside of Dublin and you will need to allow time for a bus or taxi to THERE, from the airport. That can take 45 minutes to an hour. Given the vagarities of city traffic, I wouldn't cut it TOO close.
What DAY?

Thank you so much for your answer! We land Monday August 10th.
One more question, what is the easiest and least expensive way to get from the Dublin airport to the Heuston station? Do we need to purchase tickets before we get there?
Also, having never been to Ireland, in your opinion on should we order our train tickets now or wait until we have arrived?
Since the NEXT available is 1300, that LIMITS your choices. There is a Dublin Bus link to Heuston from the Airport, so baring delays or mishaps, you SHOULD be at Heuston by 10:30.
Buying online offers some SUBSTANTIAL discounts -- but NOT on all trips. Look on the www.irishrail.ie website for any applicable bargains.
We did a train trip to Dublin from just East of Killarney, returning the same day, just this past June. Walk-up price was 78 Euro EACH, but by buying the two tickets online the day before, we only paid 80 Euro, for two. First available trip at THAT price was 10 AM, whereas the two earlier trains were only available at FULL price.
Dunno if the discounted price is still available, or if it's available at a convenient time, but I would strongly recommend you check.
You will LOVE the spiffy, Brand-New trains that Irishrail has put into service. They are a VAST improvement over the old ones.
Hope that helps,
Bob

They had some great specials on Irish Rail the other day - 10 euro each way - to many desitinations. But I think it was a Bank Holiday special. Keep looking at the site every day.
