MOBILE PHONE IN IRELAND

Hello to everybody, Im back here for the doubts Ive got about using my Italian mobile phone in Ireland. Ill need to call and book B&Bs and boat cruises, but with my Italian mobile will be extremely expensive. Could  anybody suggest any other cheaper solutions?

Roberta,

Since you are leaving in two days you don't have much time. You can purchase another phone in Ireland or you can buy a phone calling card to use. I think at this point you should just get a calling card for phoning B&Bs and making bookings. Use you Italian mobile phone for emergencies only.

Many B&Bs will make other bookings for you. So take that into consideration too.

Have a great trip to Ireland.

Thanks a lot Michele for your reply,
do you know if I can buy a phone calling card at Dublin airport?

When you get to Ireland, you could stop in one of the phone shops and price a new SIM card as well. You could purchase a prepay plan, change the card and use it like it's an Irish phone.

Many travelers manage their planning via B&B hosts and tourist offices without a problem, so being without a phone won't be too big of a deal.

Michele and Corey bring up good points regarding B&B hosts.  My second trip to Ireland, we had nothing planned long range as far as B&Bs to stay in -- only knew the towns we were going to and when.

Each time that trip, we simply asked the B&B owner where we had stayed if they had anyplace they recommended at our next stop.  And each time they did (many are part of a large network and know other owners).  Without even asking, most times the person would say, "would you like me to phone ahead for you and set that up?"

It worked out great for us.  The next time over I had researched B&Bs through this site, and had things in place, but the owner making the calls for us approach worked well when we needed it.

I've been to Ireland several times now and never had a phone on me, or actually felt I needed one.  Would suspect you would do well either way.

It's very interesting what you say about B&Bs hosts. I'd never thought they would book accomodation for you. Now, I think I'll take your advice and ask them to do it. They know the places surely more than me!!
thanks to all of you for your promt and valuable suggestions! as usual!

Roberta,

If you decide to purchase a phone card or SIM card, there are shops at Dublin Airport where you can do so.

The B&B owners are extremely helpful. They can book not only other B&Bs but you spoke of cruises and they may do that and other tours too. Ask any Irish person for advice and you will get plenty, most of the time with an offer of help.

Have a wonderful trip. We would enjoy hearing how you liked Ireland on your return.
