Hello,My parents and I just returned back home to upstate NY from a 7 day trip to Ireland. We spent 3 1/2 days just outside of Dublin City in an upscale Hotel. I wasn't able to sleep the 1st night there so I was trying to find something on TV to watch & came across this channel that had a couple sleeping, this was not a movie. I watched for a few min. to make sure. The next 2 nights the same thing, but different people. When we went to Cork City we stayed in an other upscale Hotel in Douglass. I had the same exact experience with the late night TV. I didn't say anything to my parents until the trip was over, to avoid upsetting them. I assured them that their room was not being viewed on TV for all to see. What an invasion of privacy. Is this legal in Ireland to do this? Our last night was spent in an Hotel at Dublin Airport, this Hotel did not have the hidden camera's. Has anyone else had the same experience?
Your experience is weird. I have never heard of that before in Ireland. I have seen reports on US TV about such things in the US and always assumed it was an abberation rather than something that happens all the time.
Did you contact hotel management or the night manager to show them what you were seeing? Did you confront the hotel to see what their answer was? Did you take a photo or video of the TV channel?
As to whether it is against the law, I can only assume it is a gross invasion of privacy. I don't know if there is an exact law on the books in Ireland banning cameras in hotel rooms. I suggest you contact the hotels in question and also report it to Tourism Ireland. Sorry to hear about your very strange experiences. Do let us know if you hear back.

Yeah, that sounds like the reality TV show Big Brother... especially since it was on TV at more than one hotel. Everyone appearing on the show agrees to be locked on the "set" and taped until they get kicked off or win the competition. They have cameras watching 24/7.
It sounds like your mystery has been solved. It is nice to know you were not being filmed in your room at Irish hotels. Watching someone sleep sounds like a good cure for insominia though.
That is so weird! I was thinking all along as I read the posts that Ireland must have some weird laws where they allow that sort of thing. How creepy that would be... I'm glad it just ended up being a tv show! (though that is still creepy to me that they are filmed while sleeping)
