Looking for accomodations in Dublin...

Hello - My mom and I just decided to return to Dublin in December (2010). We won't be renting a car and will be relying on public transportation (hop on/off etc). I was curious if there are any great apartments, townhouses etc. we could rent for a week. We are planning on going December 10 (ish) to December 20 (ish).

Thanks!
Maggie

Maggie,

I have not stayed at self-catering in Dublin. However, I have a list of places that you can look at and research:

http://www.molesworthcourt.ie/

http://www.yourhomefromhome.com/

http://www.embassycottage.com/

http://www.augustineapartments.com/index.php

http://www.brookman.ie/

http://www.premierapartmentsdublin.com/

http://www.premiersuitesdublin.com/

http://www.latchfords.ie/

http://www.ocallaghanhotels.com/Apartments.aspx

http://www.dublin-selfcatering.com/index.asp

http://www.staydublin.com/

I am not recommending any of them because I have not visited them. So if you choose one we would enjoy hearing back after you stay.

Michele

Hi Michele - Wow that's a good long list. I'll start researching them. Any great hotels to stay in? You had recommended Christchurch house/Jurys Inn, O'Callahans - I probably killed those names...could you recommend any other hotels in Dublin.

Thanks!
Maggie.

Hi Maggie,

I can highly recommend the Brooks Hotel in Drury Street, Dublin, nice and central. We were there this time last year and were very happy with our stay there. Very nice room, lovely breakfasts. We were within a comfortable walking distance to everything we wanted to see, and the hop on/hop off bus stop was close by for those places further away. Among sights we walked to were: Trinity College, O'Connell Street, Temple Bar, St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublinia Exhitbition, Grafton Street (shopping), Dublin Castle, St Stephen's Green.

Regards,
Meredith

Maggie,

I second Meredith's suggestion of Brooks. It is very good. Did you look at my recommendations on my "Lodgings" page? It would help to know your price range.

Michele, I looked at all your suggestions and the prices were very reasonable. I'm now on the fence regarding self-catering and a hotel. I love the "service" associated with a hotel and security... I have lots of time to think about it. Another friend of mine recommended Gresham Hotel, which is more affordable than the Brooks (even though Brook looks amazing!).

Have you heard anything about Gresham Hotel?

Maggie

Maggie,

The Gresham is fine but some of the rooms can be very small.

Hey Maggie,

I´ve also been looking into some type of accomodation for when I travel to dublin with my parents in a few months. I've come across a lot of the sites Michele already mentioned, but here is another I found:

http://www.let.ie/

I don't know what budget you and your mom will be on, but my family wants to limit how much we spend on the apartment. This site seems to have cheaper options:

http://www.apartments2book.com/dublin.htm

We also really liked this site, which gives everything from cute rental houses to simple apartment buildings in the center of Dublin:

http://www.casamundo.co.uk/ireland/dublin/dublin.htm

And there are even more options! I'll let you know if I come across something better

Thanks for your post. As far as our budget I'm on the fence...part of me doesn't want to spent too much on the room because we're not in Ireland for our room, and the other part of me wants to be comfortable throughout our trip, which means a nice comfy room. So, our budget...I'm guessing maybe $100 / person / night.

Maggie,

I don't think you will have any problems finding something nice for that budget. Look for "special offers" on the websites if you are spending more than 2 days. Many hotels will throw in a dinner or two as well as B&B for a lower price. Take a look at my self catering page for a discussion of the pros and cons.

Thanks Michele - I will look at your self catering page. Mom and I decided to go in October (after I graduate with my MBA); we were going to go in December.

What a graduation gift!  smile
