B&Bs in Skibbereen, Kinsale?

I need a little help with lodgings in Skibbereen and Kinsale. They need to be within walking distance of the Bus Eireann stop.

In Skibbereen, we are looking at the Sunnyside B&B on Mardyke. (Not reviewed in TA). In Kinsale, we are considering the Cloisters B&B. (The Desmond House looks great, but at 70E pps, as I read their site, it's a bit pricey.

Bronx,

Sunnyside is reviewed on TA: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g211921-d1015777-Reviews-Sunnyside_B_B-Skibbereen_County_Cork.html but not exactly glowing reviews.

There are not a trememdous amount of places to choose from in Skib. My recommendation PK Lodge is too far outside town for you. Are you aware that many times B&B owners will pick you up at the bus station or stop? It all depends on their schedules and personalities. In this economy it is a question worth asking.

Kinsale is a problem because it is very hilly. I can recommend Woodlands and Landfall House, which are both waking distance to town but you would have to walk up a steep hill with your luggage. (Of course going down would be a breeze!) Why not send Desmond House and email to see if they have any specials going on that might be lower in price than what is on their website? I am not familiar with the Cloisters but it has good reviews on TA.

Boy, was THAT ever good advice. Desmond House made a generous offer, and so we are going with them. Given their rave reviews, we are thrilled. Happy New Year, Michele!

Meanwhile, I have written the Skib Tourist Office re b&bs. I'll let you know.

Bronx,

I'm delighted you got a deal at Desmond House. It is in an excellent location. I visited a few years ago and it was lovely. The owner was very nice. Be prepared for stairs though as it is a tall narrow building.

Hope you and everyone here has a fantastic 2010.

Michele, As always you had good advice. I certainly won't look any further regarding Sunnyside---reviews were terrible.  no

Bronx --- Glad you are on Michele's site....you have chosen such nice places to stay.....we loved Skibbereen, it is one of our most favorite places.   Have a wonderful trip.   xd.gif

I guess we will have to go back to Skibbereen and check where you, Michele, mentioned.  We have not stayed over night, it as a day trip from Bantry--we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.  If I remember right, we did go to the Fields gro. store.  After we shopped, we left through the street door; however, we first had to stop and have a snack at the Deli, was really good!  Eventho it was not breakfast time, they had wonderful breakfast sandwich!  smile   youngka

I emailed the Skibbereen Tourist office re b&bs, and they replied with a recommendation for the West Cork hotel! 60E a room gets us a "full Irish breakfast", period, no description. It IS around the corner from Bus Eireann, however.

Bronx,

The hotel gets decent reviews. From reading a few of them it seems the hotel was undergoing refirbishment in 2009. The question I would ask is if it is finished. I hate being in hotels with construction.

I think 60 euro per room including breakfast is good. If you go to the hotel's website they are currently showing a room only rate (no breakfast) of 49 euro. But perhaps it is for the winter only. Worth an email to inquire.

Tip: If you go for the room only rate you can take some packets of instant oatmeal with and use the tea & coffee making facilities in your room for tea and oatmeal in the morning.
