I tried contacting Tara McDonnell at Boyne Haven House in Drogheda but she wrote back to say they have closed the B&B. I hear this is happening more and more in Ireland...
A good reason to get Michele's *latest* copy! :)
I know you are on top of all of these things, Michele!
So now I'm looking for other B&B suggestions anywhere in the Newgrange area. Anyone?
Tara and her parents have been closed for several years. Too bad because they ran the best B&Bs in Drogheda.
A forum member stayed at Newgrange Lodge and said it was okay. She was not thrilled with breakfast. When I visited it a few years ago I thought it was rather hostel-like. But it is very close to Newgrange.
If I were staying in the area it would be at Trim Castle Hotel or The D Hotel. Trim Castle Hotel usually has some very good online rates that rival B&Bs.
We stayed at "White Lodge B&B" in Trim. It was very comfortable and good breakfast. I don't recall the miles, but we left the B&B at 10:30 AM, took a brief 30 minute tour of Trim Castle (in the rain) and arrived at Newgrange easily by noon. Don't know if Trim is located close enough for you, but it is a great location for hotels and B&Bs. Dan

Chiming in late...sorry, haven't been to visit here in awhile! (Bad me...)
We stayed at Newgrange Lodge in 2008. Ugh. "Hostel-like" is accurate, Michele. The walls in our room were paper-thin. In the middle of the night, we could hear conversations in the rooms on either side of ours. The people weren't shouting, just talking. Very hard to sleep there.
IMHO, the one thing that Newgrange Lodge has going for it is its location. It is very close to Newgrange and very convenient for a visit there. I'll make a Herculean effort to avoid it from now on, though.
It should also be noted that this is not he only transportation plan for the area. The other plan, to reopen the light rail line, would have saved the archeological sites in the Tara valley. It also would have been less cost prohibitive, I am sure.
This motorway project has drawn fire from many international entities, as well. At one point, there was talks of sanctions and such.
