I have not seen a memorial to Lindbergh although there is one to Al**** and Brown outside Clifden. It sounds like the Foynes Flying Boat Museum might be a must for you. It is very interesting. The museum mentions Corrigan and others involved in early flights to Ireland.
The moment I can see the green hills and stone fences as I fly over, and the next is the minute I put my feet down on Irish soil---these are my favorite times! As for places, a few of my favorites:
Carrignacurra, the O'Leary castle in Inchigeelagh, Cty. Cork. Creeden's Hotel and Bar, with Joe Creeden, in the same little town. My own castle.
The Dingle with the monastic and mystic places. AND-- The Shores B and B with Annette and her elegant cooking and sparkling personality. Slea Head Drive, oh-the scenery.
Tudor Lodge in Laragh, Glendalough. Sitting by the Avoca (Methink this is the river) River, on a bench--reading a good book and listening to the waters. I am there!
Gap Of Dunloe...Riding in a jaunting cart on a clear day.
I could go on forever, and it is best I quit now before the page gives out.
Funny that you would be censored by your own forum! I was censored once during my entry on the NW Ireland trip report on your forum! Now I see how you get around that problem! As for the Foynes Flying boat museum, it was on our list for the last 2 days of our NW Ireland trip last August, but one Dr. appointment took care of that option! Maybe on another trip..... Dan
And, no sheep on the runway! Looks like the kind of small airstrip that I prefer. I would like to fly my own plane to Ireland someday, but would have to put aux fuel tanks in the baggage compartment, and the right seat...and my wife would not be able to go along. It's a large puddle between here and there, and since I don't swim too well, and knowing "Murphy's Law", I best not try it. Dan
