My friend and I are traveling to Ireland in mid-March for 6 days. It's our first time to Ireland - we'd like to see as much as we can, but at the same time, not rush everything too much! We're interested in seeing some sights, and absorbing the Irish culture!
We are flying in an out of Dublin - the package deal includes a hotel in Dublin the first night, 5 nights of B&B (which we select ourselves), and a rental car.
So far, I have proposed this itinerary ... please could you advise!
Day one - Dublin - stay night in Dublin Day 2 - Galway - stay night in Clarinbridge Day3 - Burren and Cliffs of Moher - stay night in Shannon Day 4 - ... and here's where I'm struggling!
I thought we could go to the Ring of Kerry ... but I've read others say that the Dingle Peninsular is better.
I've read what you've said about Kenmare, and would love to see that. And the Rock of Cashel sounds incredible too. Is this too much driving to contemplate? We need to be back to Dublin on Day 6 (our flight departs 2pm).
Any suggestions/advice you can give would be most welcome!
Welcome to my forum. Unfortunately (or fortunately) there is so much to see in Ireland that it can be tough narrowing down your choices. If it were me I would cut out either Galway or the SW and concentrate on one place, not both. With a 3-4 hour drive across the country, that leaves little time for actually seeing Galway. Plus if you stop and do sightseeing along the way, that can add a lot of time to the drive. From Galway you could do the Aran Islands, Connemara and Cliffs of Moher. Then move on to Cashel.
On the other hand you could choose to skip Galway and proceed to Cashel and then the SW. I think most here would agree that Dingle gives you more scenery and charm per square mile than the ROK does. And the Beara Peninsula is wonderful too.
By staying in a place for more than one night you will get your wish about not rushing too much. Plus it will give you time to settle into a place and get familiar with it.
Just a small point Lynn. I would not choose Shannon as a place to stay except for easy access to the airport. There are plenty of more "Irish" villages and towns (like Ennis) in the neighborhood. Michele is giving you very good advice. Don't try to do too much in one trip or you'll miss everything. Slow down and have a great trip.
