Hi Michele, This is my first post, you have a great website!
My family is planning our first trip to Ireland in June and the question my wife and daughter have is regarding "cigarette lighters" in rental cars. They want to be able to recharge various electronics (I-Pod, Cell phone, etc) and they usually do this via an adapter plugged into the cigarette lighter in the car. We know that US power cords don't work in Europe so were wondering if the same applies to this.
Probably a dumb question but better safe than sorry.
Secondly, I use my phone charger and a camera battery charger, both of which plug in to the lighter plug, when I am traveling. Unlike your household appliances cords, the lighter plugs are, I belive, universal.
Just one caveat, make sure you remember to check your storage cubbies in the car when you turn in your rental. I think I have left a charger in every rental which I have returned.

I called our rental car company, Dooley, and asked the same question about our GPS charger. They said the charger would work in their rental cars. We're going in May, so I'll write if I find it works differently, Cherry
Welcome to my forum. And thanks for your comments about my website. Bit and Bob have beat me to your answer. As you see, there is no problem using the car's lighter for charging.
Let us know if we can help with any other questions as your planning progresses.
