Irish Ancestry Hunters

I recently sent my DNA sample into www.genetree.com in Salt Lake City. (I am not endorsing them - they have many competitors). They are going to trace my maternal and paternal lineage back 18,000 years. For quite a bit more money, a professional geneologist will look at birth, baptism, marriage and death certificates, property deeds, ship manifests, etc., and lead me to cousins far removed.

Bronx,

18,000 years? Wow! There were no people living in Ireland then and I think it was probably covered in ice. But it does sound intriguing. You will have to let us know if there are any "characters" in your past like rampaging Vikings, high kings, peasants or saints.

Hi BB...My sis and I are "into geneology" and, a few years ago, we got our brother to do the DNA test (can't remember which site--sister did it).  We have found several distant cousins, one of which I met in London in 2007! He lives in southern England, and he and his wife drove up to meet me. It was quite an experience.  We didn't determine which ancestor we had in common, but we had a fun lunch with family.  The whole DNA sample investigation is amazing.  I would also encourage Irish Americans/Austalians to look into it.  A far as I know, it is only the male DNA that counts. Isn't that discrimination?? LOL!
