Car Rentals

More bad news on the car rental front:cry   Irishtimes.com Tues Mar 30 had an article about the shortage of rental cars in Ireland predicted for 2010.  The article stated there were 30,000 cars available in 2006, 17,500 last year, and only 12,500 for this year.  The costs are predicted to go from 200Euros/week average price last year to 400Euros/week average, this year.disbelief

Some have noticed a sharp increase in price just in the last day or two.  If you have airline tickets purchased to Ireland, don't wait too long to get a car reserved, based on this article.     Dan

Sooo...if I have a prepaid rental I should be good to go, though, right?  Please say yes!  I'm hoping that a prepaid rental means that they are holding 1 econo car for me! smile  And I would hope that if they had booked all of their cars ahead of time that they would stop taking reservations?  Or does it not *really* work that way...?

Dan,

Yes, unfortunately I have been following the news for quite some time. I have tweeted about it often. So if you follow me on Twitter you get lots of updates on it and other things related to Ireland.

Actually, I have been pricing a car rental and the price just dropped $10. What's up with that?

But those going in season should reserve in advance.

Rosa,

I have heard of people getting to the car desk to find they were out of cars. In that case the company almost always sends you to another company (and gives you the same rental rates and terms). I suggest you don't dilly dally on arrival. Get through immigration, get your luggage and hightale it to the car rental desk.

Michele,
Thanks! That's my plan.  Flight arrives around 7ish and I plan on hitting the car rental desk ASAP.  biggrin

Rosa,

Good plan. At that early hour you are probably okay.
