My wife and I and our adult niece will be traveling to Ireland in early May of this year. We land in Dublin on May 1, rent a car, drive to Kilkenny and spend our first two nights in Kilkenny.
From Kilkenny we intent to tour the Rock of Cashel, on our way to Kinsale, where we intend to stay for the next two nights.
Leaving Kinsale we plan to tour Muckross House and then backtrack a bit to Kenmare where we would spend the next night so as to get an early start on the ROK.
As we leave the ROK, we at looking at Dingle for the next two nights accomodations.
leave Dingle and head to Tarbert where we catch the ferry to Killimer and then drive the coast to the Cliffs of Mohr and overnight in Doolin.
From Doolin, we would head back East to Dublin for our last two nights before flying home on the 11th.
I would very much appreciate any comments on this itinerary and any suggestions where we may be able to improve.
Also, we intend to prebook for our first two nights in Kilkenny, and for our last two nights in Dublin. Will we be ok to book B&B's or hotels as we go in the other towns of Kinsale, Kenmare, Dingle and Doolin?
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Welcome to my forum. You will be arriving on a Bank Holiday weekend so I suggest booking your Kilkenny stay immediately. You can easily do a circular day trip to Rock of Cashel and Cahir from Kilkenny.
There is actually a whole lot more to do and see in the SW Kenmare/Killarney area than from Kinsale. Now I don't know what your plans are in Kinsale but you might think of one night there and two in Kenmare. Of course, if you have connections in Kinsale that might be why you have two nights there.
In general tourism to Ireland is down and you should be able to find a place to stay in the places mentioned. If you have any problems you can pop into the local tourist office and they will find you something for a small fee. Searching for accommodations on the fly can mean taking time from other things like sightseeing. I suggest you have a list of accommodations you are interested in for each area. That will narrow things down.
I have a good listing on my Lodgings page and lots more in my book.
Let us know if we can answer any other questions. May is my favorite month in Ireland!
Great suggestion on Kinsale and Kenmare. I will definitely check that out.
We are very excited and cant wait to get there. I am a bit anxious about driving on a different side of the road, but I will get used to it after a few days. I will have help, I am sure, reminding me to "keep on the left side"!!
Let your wife or partner remind you to stay left. They will also have an important job as navigator. Don't forget to pay your M50 toll. See my Hot News page for info about that.
