Can I take the car I am renting at the Dublin airport to Scotland and England (via car ferries)? If yes, are there additional fees/charges I should be aware of or other concerns about doing so?
I don't know of any Irish car rental companies that will allow you to take the car out of Ireland by ferry. If you can find one the insurance would probably be astronomical. And if you are talking about renting in Ireland and dropping the car in the UK - NO!
Thank you Michele. That really affects our planning. Any issues with renting a car at Dublin airport and driving up into Northern Ireland for a few days and then returning the vehicle to Dublin airport?
There should be no issue with that. I've even seen some that allow renting in Dublin and dropping in Belfast, though there is a nice hefty fee associated with it, and most do not allow that.

No problem with going from Dublin to No. Ireland. However, some car rental companies have an extra charge for going to No. Ireland. Be sure to read the fine print before renting.
I should have clarified my statement about dropping the car in the UK. I meant England, Wales or Scotland. As Christy (Green Dragon) rightly pointed out it is perfectly acceptable to drop a car from Dublin in Belfast (which is part of the UK).
