Had to check the date on that article, this has been in the pipeline since last century along with the Limerick to Cork motorway. Work is going on above Gort on the M18 which has been promised since 2004 in the mean time the M50 has been expanded and the Dublin Port tunnel promised and built. but then there is an election on the way isn't there?

Ireland's Orient Express?

This is well beyond my budget at $3-5,000 +   and I can't quite grasp where you would need the sleeper car for given Ireland's size and rail Network layout, but . . .  confuse  confuse

At least it's being done with Irish materials and without tax subsidies!

Looks like fun but very pricey.

If you want even more expensive how about 3,000 euro per night for the boathouse at Ashford Castle? no

Our brother and sister-in-law are on an Ireland train cruise this week. I don't know if they are sleeping on the train or castles. We told them we wanted a full report of their adventure. It will surely be interesting.

Irish EIRCODES -- Now recognized by Google Maps.  When mapping directions, instead of typing in the GPS Long / Lat numbers -- or just settling for the town, use their EIRCODE, instead.

Well, back to the Emerald Isle express train. My cousin in Cork sent me a link to the independent.ie video of the 5000 euro rail cruise. It was slightly different than the one you posted Bob. I almost fell off my chair when I saw my sister-in-law in the video boarding the train. My Cork cousin has never met my sister-in-law so would not have sent the video because he recognized her.

Now I will really be very anxious for their trip report to me. Stay tuned.

Heck, I would have charged them half that price and shown them the real Irish culture. They surely won't see the Ireland I love from a train window. However, their accommodations are much better than sleeping on a train. biggrin I still say that my best Ireland experience was staying in a real thatched cottage with a flowing turf fire. Those are the memories I cherish.

I like the real experience too Judy. However, I wouldn't mind a stay at a posh place thrown into the mix once in a while. Just for variety, mind you. wink

 I was there... Not sure God approved though? its the first time I've taken folk to Kylemore and nobody dared to take a camera out..It didn't just rain cats and dogs it rained cows and horses.
