IDP necessary to rent a car in Ireland?

Dear Everyone,  Just 2 quick questions from a newbie,  is an IDP necessary to rent a car in Ireland if you have a valid US driver's license and, in light of all the CDW discussions, wouldn't it maybe be easier to accept the insurance (how much would this typically add?)?  I guess thats 3 questions isn't it!  Thanks for any help you can give on this matter.  --sxmdoc

sxmdoc,

Welcome to my forum. An international driver's license is not necessary in Ireland. It is easier to take the CDW and Super CDW insurance. The cost is different at each company and for each class of cars. You will have to do a price comparison on various car sites for that. It could double the price of the car.
