Is doing a day trip out to the dingle peninsula from Killarney (2nights in Killarney) reasonable? or would we be better off to stay in Killarney one night and Dingle one night
You can quite easily drive the full ring of the Dingle peninsular in a day from Killarney and In my minority opinion Dingle is over rated. The scenery is good but the fishing village that doubles its population in high season just does nothing for me. Staying 2 nights in one location far outweighs sitting in a bar with 70% tourists. You can of course do this in Killarney but there are still a few bars in Killarney where you can sit and chat with 70% locals

I am an advocate of staying put and doing day trips from strategic areas in Ireland. I have often done Dingle as a day trip from Killarney. As Tony says it is easily done. Enjoy your two nights in Killarney.
I am probably the last person to ask about Dingle, It is a good place to drive around the Peninsular from Killarney to the Shannon Ferry some of the views can be really good. My choice though would be a night in Kenmare to explore the Beara and posibly the Sheeps Head then a night in Killarney and drive Dingle loop. It realy depends on the rest of your trip and the days either side, there are several Passes on the Iveragh peninsular where the tour buses dont go, some only reward the brave. The South West corner of Ireland is special and has lots going for it, which is why it gets so many visitors. It is your holiday, dont try and do too much, see what the wind and the weather brings as we say and enjoy yourself
