-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hello again--- first off congradulations on an excellent web site and a great service!!!!it has been extreamly helpful. I was wondering how hard it will be to find a room for two while traveling around Ireland from june 8-16, we dont want to tie ourselves into reservations and would rather go as we please-- Will we have trouble finding rooms and will we be heavily charged for not having a reservatation? What should we expect to pay for a room during that time in a bed and breakfast or hotel? I figured with all the scare over foot and mouth that alot of people will be staying away from ireland and rooms should be easy to come by...Thanks for your time. -Michael

RE: Finding a place to sleep as we go
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Mike,
Thanks very much for your kind words about my web site. I'm glad you're enjoying it. You will not be overcharged for not having reservations. B&Bs have rates of approximately 18-25 pounds per person and hotels would range from perhaps 30 pounds up to several hundred (depending on the establishment). Things are off to a slow start in Ireland and you probably will be okay with just winging it. If you have any problems finding a place to stay you can always go into any tourist office and for a small fee they will find you a place to stay.
Certain areas in Ireland are always busy on weekends like Killarney, Dingle, Galway, Doolin, Kinsale, etc. and you might consider calling ahead when you know you will be in a certain place for a weekend. You should also try to have reservations for your first and last nights since you will know where you need to be on those days anyway. And if you plan on staying in Dublin do make reservations as it is a very busy city at all times.
Another tip: if you stay at a nice B&B and know you will go on to a certain destination for the next day, have them recommend another B&B for you to stay in in the area you are going to. Over the years the owners build up a circle of friends that have proved reliable and most likely you will be happy with the place they send you on to.
