Good Friday/Easter visit

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Michele!
We are visiting Ireland during Holy Week (April 8-15). We are staying at B&Bs. Various guidebooks indicate that pubs and restaurants are closed on Good Friday. Will we be able to eat lunch and dinner that day? Will we have the same problem on Easter Sunday? What other closures (i.e. attractions) might we encounter?

On Good Friday almost everything is closed -- even the pubs!!!!. The rest of the weekend and Monday most places open up, pubs, attractions etc except for banks/offices. You should definitely book your lodging in advance and might want to stay at a place with a restaurant. Otherwise hotel restaurants will be open but will give first preference to guests.

Hi Eimflanagan,

irrover has given you very good and accurate advice. (Thanks irrover!)

If you are staying at B&Bs, I suggest that you make dinner reservations for Good Friday at a nearby hotel. As for lunch, how about having the hosts at your B&B pack you a picnic lunch with sandwiches, etc? If you inquire in advance it might be possible. Otherwise just go to any hotel. NOTE: I always travel around with packets of instant soup (most B&Bs have tea/coffee facilities in each room), fruit, snacks, etc.

On Easter Sunday many Irish families go to restaurants for lunch (which lasts most of the day). You will definitely want reservations at the restaurant of your choice on this day.

Most attractions will be closed on Good Friday. However, you could plan a scenic drive and things like the Cliffs of Moher are always open! Last time I was in Ireland on G.F. I was pleasantly surprised to find the Foynes Flying Boat Museum open. So if you inquire locally you might find a few things open.

Other than that, all I can say is have a great trip to Ireland! Hope you will come back and tell us how it went.

Happy travels,

Michele
