Dinner for 50th birthday

We will be arriving in Ireland the morning of September 14th. My 50th birthday is on the 15th. We will be staying in Fuerty, Co Rosscommon. Any ideas for a great place to celebrate on the 15th would be appreciated!

Wendy,

Yeah! You're going back to Ireland again. biggrin

Congrats on your upcoming 50th! A special occasion indeed. I recommend Gleeson's in Roscommon town. It is popular so make reservations and be sure to tell them that it is a special night.

How long will you be in Ireland? Are you self-catering?

Wendy,

I will second Gleeson's as a wonderful place for a celebratory dinner. If you decide to celebrate your fiftieth there, would you let me know ahead of time? I will send word to Eammon & Mary, the owners that you are coming and why. They will take extra special care of you then.

Slan Beo,

Bit

Hi Wendy:

If you can get in, I also will say you should go to Gleeson's.  It is simply tremendous food in a great location, but it will be crowded, so don't just go there thinking you will get in.

Now you have me hungry .... biggrin

Try the seafood pasta medley. It really is nuts how much seafood is in the thing.  Their menu lists the following ingrediants: salmon, sussels, clams and smoked haddock tossed with noodle house organic pasta, white wine cream sauce, and fine herb & vegetables. We couldn't finish it all, but the to-go box worked well the next day!

FYI -- this is also a B&B possibility as well.  We already had a place and didn't stay there, but it looks really nice.

Between your glowing recommendations, and the sound of their menu, we have made our decision - Beeson's it is!

Keith just e-mailed them for reservations. Hopefully since I am making the request 6 weeks out, they will have a table for us.

Thanks again for your recommendations.

Michelle - We will be arriving the morning of 91/4 and will be leaving on 9/29. We will be self-catering at Fuerty House cottage. Keith is so looking forward to cooking with some of that wonderful, fresh irish food!

Wendy,

Sounds like fun. You will be exploring one of Ireland's lesser known counties. I recommend Strokestown Park House & Famine Museum while you are there. Let us know if you get into Gleeson's.

Wendy,

I just sent Eammmon a private email and let him know that a dinner reservation request should be in his inbox from Keith.

Make sure that you save room for dessert, as Mary is a phenomenal pastry chef!

Slan Beo,

Keith just confirmed our reservation for 7pm on September 15th. We are so excited!

Bit - No need to worry about our saving room for dessert. Keith is already anxious to try her apple pie, and I can't wait for her brioche bread pudding!

Michelle - Both of Keith's great grandparents are from the area - great grandmother from Roscommon town and great grandfather from Ballaghadreen. His great-great grandparents on the Coleman side are buried in Ballaghadreen We believe there are still some relatives living there - we are hoping a visit to the churches there will help us find them.

Wendy,

Glad to hear you are set for a lovely dinner at Gleeson's. Enjoy! Hope you find some relations. Now that would be fun. We want all the details of dinner and your trip so take notes!

Wendy,

Email me off list or send me a message on my whiteboard. I can have a go at locating folk in Co. Roscommon for you, if you wish. No promises but I have had some good luck in helping others before. I just need the birthdate and full name of any County born relatives and the town in which they were born.

Slan Beo,

Wendy,

You should definitely take Bit up on her offer. Keep in mind that the whiteboard here is public. But you can send her a PM (private message) on the forum too.

Thanks so much. Bit - I sent you a private message on the board last night.
