City Mouse, Country Mouse

My husband and I are going to Ireland for 2 weeks in Sept.  We are staying on the west coast, flying in and out of Shannon.  We are like the City Mouse and the Country Mouse....he wants to be in the rural towns, while I love a lively city.   I have heard Galway is "happening" and mixed reviews on Cork.  Does anyone have a favorite town/village and city that we should include in our travels?

Galway is "happening" or quiet depending what you want and where you go as is the same for many of the main towns and Cities.  Clifden on the Connamara has Arts Week 16th-26th and is high my favourite town list.

Pat,

Welcome to my forum. How nice that you get to use Shannon as opposed to Dublin. That airport is such a breeze.

It is no secret that Kenmare is my favorite small town and Kilkenny is my favorite city. In the west Galway might give your husband what he is looking for. As for Cork, I would rather stay in Kinsale than Cork City. But to each his own.

Let us know if you need more info.
