Places to stay in Galway?

Does anyone have a favorite place to stay in Galway?

I dont mind hotels but would rather stay in a B&B.

I checked Michele's page for places to stay but didn't see anything for Galway ... although I might be blind today! confuse

Thanks for all your help!

We stayed at "Griffing Lodge B&B" located on a quiet street about 2 blocks west of the Spanish Arch. It is an easy 5 minute walk to the Spanish Arch, which is near the beginning of the (pedestrian only) street where all the most popular pubs, shops and restaurants are located. Griffin lodge B&B is not fancy, nor does it have large rooms, but it is clean and comfortable, and the hostess, Anne, was extremely friendly and helpful with a map of Galway, and she pointed out the best restaurants and also pubs that featured trad. music sessions. She also called and booked our flight to the Aran Islands.

Breakfast was very good. Parking was a little tight but she will get you a spot. Our car didn't move for 3 days, so we parked it in behind the "one night" visitors's cars. We gave her the keys, and she had the car out front and ready to go, on the day we left. Anne was our favoite hostess during our 2 week trip, during which we stayed in several B&B's. The price at Griffin was 40 Euros/person/night. We stayed there once again on the 2nd last night of our trip, on the way back to Shannon Airport, after visiting Donegal and points north. I would stay at Griffin Lodge B&B again, esp. because of its proximity to downtown Galway. Dan

The Herons nest gets good reviews down the long walk through Spanish Arch and there are a couple of good B&B on College Rd about 5 minutes or so fron Eyre Square.  Lynfield and Amber lodge are well respected but there are many others either side of town including the Salthill area. You will also find lots to do and see without breaking the bank.

I actually do have some recommendations on my Lodgings page. Try Marless House. Or if you want a very central hotel Park House Hotel is hard to beat. They are running some multiple night specials right now that are attractive.

Hi clark219:

I can recommend Marless House.  It was great when I was there 3 years ago.  smile.gif

We stayed at St. Martin's B&B. Very well-located, and exceptionally friendly.

St Martin's is one of my favorite places to stay in Galway, as well. It is close in proximity to the pedestrian district and yet, due to its location in a quiet neighborhood, has a feeling of being removed from hustle and bustle.

I always have the feeling of coming home whenever I get the chance to stay. The hosts are welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area. Mary makes the best breakfasts! The last time I was there, Mr. Tubbs was the official greeter. I haven't been there in a few years. I hope he is still around.

Here is their contact information:

St. Martins Guesthouse

Thanks Andi and Bit. That's another option for Clark.
