Tarbert Ferry or Limerick Hello all! We leave for Ireland in 2 weeks, and I'm so excited I can hardly stand myself! I thought I had my travel route planned, but someone (reliable) told me to go a different way. We arrive in Shannon at 7:15am and had planned to get to Tralee via the Tarbert Ferry. We were told (by an equally reliable source) to avoid the traffic of Limerick. Now we're told that there is no one in Ireland awake and driving at 7am in Limerick or anywhere else for that matter - not to worry What's your thoughts on the best way to get there? Thanks! Chris
I know you are counting down the days till you are in Ireland. It won't be long now. At 7am there will be few cars on the road so you can take the main roads from Shannon Airport through Limerick to Tralee. There are bypasses around Limerick anyway and you don't have to go through the heart of the city (unless you get lost). For a while (when approaching Limerick) the main signs will point you toward Cork (N20) but keep your eyes peeled after that for signs to Adare and Killarney (N21). In Castleisland you will veer off to Tralee. If you were traveling later in rush hour traffic you would run into congestion in either direction in Ennis or Limerick.
I hope you trip goes very well and you have some good weather. Please let us hear from you on your return. We have had some wonderful trip reports lately on the "I'm Back" section of the forum. We all look forward to them.

Travel through Limerick Hi,
I drove through the outskirts of Limerick this past Saturday morning on my way from Killarney to Doolin and it was fast and no problem at all.
Go for it and then you can stop by Bunratty, Dromoland, etc.

Tarbert Ferry or Limerick Thanks Ande - Limerick it is! I just made a last-minute change to our itinerary and made a reservation with Mary Browne at the Bunratty Lodge for our last night in Ireland! We'll take the ferry on our way up the coast and see all the sights we can fit in one day - hopefully including Galway. 7 days and counting! Chris

Galway Chris:
I found Galway to be a really hopping town. I was quite surprised with all the people. There is a lot of shopping. I need to go back to finish mine, ha, ha. Look out for McCarthy Jewelers. I bought some nice sterling silver jewelry there, good prices.
Driving along the coastline is amazing. You will love it. Just watch out around the bends. I've never seen such curving roads.
