Killarney B&B

I highly recommend Salmon Leap B&B. E-mail Sheila at salmleap@indigo.ie . Her website is www.salmonleapfarm.com .

Re: Killarney B&B

I liked Crystal Springs in Killarney ( see my review of it on page 2 or 3 of the forum)

There too , you will see I liked Headley Court in Bunratty for our last night. Lots of people also like Bunratty Lodge.

Cranberry sauce

Stayed for three nights at Heaton's in Dingle. It was one of the nicest places we visited (out of twelve.) The place is very comfortable, the location is excellent (on the bay,) and the owners/hosts, Cameron and Nuala, are an example of how it should be done. Jackie, their daughter will cook your breakfast. We would try the pan cakes AND the porridge with brown sugar and Drambuie. Heaton's was, to us, a 'ten'

Cranberry Sauce

Hi mhuntley,

I assume that you are asking about cranberry sauce since you will be in Ireland over Thanksgiving? They do have it but do not celebrate that holiday.

Some things to keep in mind when traveling to Ireland in Nov/Dec. Not everything will be open. Many B&Bs will be closed. The heat in many of the B&Bs that are open will probably be less than what you are used to. Days are short with the sun rising around 8:20 and setting around 4 pm.

It sounds like you are already weary with trying to plan your trip. Perhaps a bit of information overload? To plan your own itinerary you need to sit down with a calendar, map, guidebooks and try to work out your route. You should check on the opening times of the attractions you want to see since there is no use going to a particular area to see something if it is not open. Keep in mind that driving distances in Ireland can take twice as long as what you think. Try not to drive after dark, except to and from restaurants or pubs. You will want to be settled into your lodgings by sunset.

As for Heaton's it is lovely but check in advance to see if it will be open. Cregg Castle is near Galway not Cork. Call Tourism Ireland for your free copies of Town & Country and Be Our Guest books 1-800-223-6470, which lists most accommodations in Ireland. You might also find my book to be helpful: www.irelandyes.com/book.html

If you want to post your itinerary here I will be happy to comment on it. I also do custom itineraries if it gets to be too much for you.

Michele
