Hi, Just found this site - wonderful ! - and ordered your book. See this Q&A forum so decided to try it. My daughter will be in London for work in mid-November and we are thinking about meeting in Ireland but wondering what is feasible. She will fly from Orlando to London for work Sun-Wed then would be free for rest of week - so could fly to either Dublin or Shannon Thursday AM but would need to be back in Orlando for work Monday AM ! That is so little time - what sightseeing could we manage ?? It seems a great logistical challenge. Thanks for your thoughts.
In my humble opinion, with only 3 days to spend, I think my first choice would be Shannon. From there you could do the Cliffs, the Burren, Galway City for shopping, music and sightseeing. Ennis is a nice town, close to Shannon with the Friary, Thor Bealey(Yeates Tower), Coole Park(Lady Gregory's estate). This would allow you the most "wow" sight seeing opportunities in a smaller area with only 3 days to spend. I think it would take too much time out of your 3 days to try to go to SW Ireland( my favoite area of all Ireland). Of course, if you end up flying into Dublin, 2 days could be spent right in Dublin, with one additional day trip by bus to either Newgrange or Glendalough/Powercourt. Hope this helps. Hopefully others will join in for more ideas! Dan
Thor Bealey is still closed awaiting repair and renovation after last years floods. Ennis trad fest is 11th to 15th which is a great time to be in town, however accommodation could be a problem if you leave booking too late.
Welcome to my forum. I will echo Dan's advice to fly into Shannon. It is an easy airport and you will be right near lots of good sightseeing. I think that with only 3 days I would stay at the same accommodations and do day trips. Ennis would be nice as would Bunratty, Adare or Galway. Depending on where you stay some things to do are:
Bunratty Castle & Folk Park Cliffs of Moher Burren Aillwee Caves & Birds of Prey Center Aran Islands Connemara
Plenty to fill up your three days and then some.
From Dublin you can get day trips either north or south of the city. And of course you have all the city attractions on your doorstep.
Check the flights and see what works best for your trip.
