I am back and loved it!

Well...I went to Ireland on Feb 8th and had a tremendous time! Although I was bit more ambitious than most...as a matter fact most said too ambitious. We achieved all of our goals!

Day 1-Landed in Shannon went to the Cliffs of Moher (Gale force winds). Next we went to The Burren. Went back to the Two-Mile Inn and napped. Then went to the Bunratty Medieval dinner. We met the kindest Irish folks from Dublin. We then hung out with them in Durty Nelly's. Great day!

Day 2- On the road to Dublin at 7am. Visited Newgrange, Hill of Tara, and Monasterboice. Then headed to our B&B in Malahide. Loved the Evergreen (B&B). Olive, the owner, made amazing meals and provided a lot of Dublin travel advice.

Day 3- Spent the Day in Dublin. Used a hop and stop bus the whole day. Saw Trinity, St Pat's, St. Stephens Green, Guiness, Book of Kells, Shopped on Grafton and headed back to Malahide for the night. The guiness tour is not worth it...you don't get to actually see them make Guiness! The view from the Bar of Dublin was nice!

Day 4- Left at 7am and went to Waterford. We stopped at st. Mary's on the way! Very Pretty! Went on the Waterford Tour. Then drove to Cashel. Then went to Cahir. Drove to Blarney and spent the night in The White House. Also very nice accomodations.

Day 5- Got up went to Blarney and kissed the stone. Blarney Woolen Mills is great for shopping! Truly the best buys in all of Ireland. Then drove to Killarney. Went to the Muckross House. Took a jaunting car just to the Abbey at Muckross. Then drove through the Killarney National Forest to Ladies View and onto Sneem. Then headed back along the coastline and up to Tralee, where we spent the night at Brianville (B&B). Clean and nice, but the owner left a lot to be desired with her personality!!

Day 6- We drove the entire dingle penninsula! It was beautiful! Be careful not to get lost in the Gaelic area like we did! The Gaelic names do not correspond with the English names! Nonetheless, we had a blast!!!
The driving here was the best...because there were fewer cars on the road. We saw the coastline! We saw Kilmanem (sp?) church and we saw the Gallarus Oratory. We then drove to Adare, where we spent the night in Adare Manor! Very awesome accomodations and great dinner. We were there on Valentine's Day!

Day 7- Left for the Airport and stopped at the Blarney Woolen Mills at Bunratty on the way back. The duty free shop in the airport is awesome. We found the best prices on Waterford and alcohol there. The shop was huge and great for all Irish Products. This was in Shannon.

Hi Lisa,

Thanks so much for stopping back by the forum and telling us all about your trip. I'm so glad you loved Ireland. I do too! It sounds like a great trip and I hope that some day you get to return. I would be very interested in hearing more about Brianville in Tralee and the owners personality.

Brianville

The Brianville owner was not very pleasant. First she told us she would be out the day we arrived and would not return until 6pm. That was fine with us because were spending the day in and around Killarney National Forest. We got there at 6:05 and she did not show until 6:40. Then she led us to our room. She complained about the previous guests because they broke the drapery pull in the room. I found that a bit unprofessional. Then my husband set the suitcase on the bed and she had a fit! She told him immediately to take it off because she did not want her bedspread ruined. It is my experience that it would not be unforeseeable to set your luggage on the bed while traveling. Then she asked when we wanted breakfast. My husband and started to discuss times. She interrupted and said you will eat at 8:30. I found that strange! I thought it would have been nice if she would have let us settle in and figure it out first. Once Breakfast came around, my husband asked if he could have sausage with his french toast. She resoundingly said No and said she does not do that for guests with vouchers. Everywhere we stayed previously honored all breakfast requests that had slight variations from the regular menu, like adding sausage. Then we went back to the room to pack-up and as my husband was taking things out to the car. She then began going through the room while I was still in it gathering up our loose odds and ends. This I found offensive, like I was under suspicion for something. Overall I found her very rude and unlike all the other wonderful B

OOPS!

I got cut-off on the earlier message.

Concluding thought:

All the other B&B owners treated us like royalty with the use of vouchers!

Re: Brianville

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for the added info about Brianville. Perhaps she is newly in the business and doesn't know how to run a proper B&B yet. But from my experience it does sound very unprofessional. I hope the other B&B owners made up for one bad B&B host.

B& B's

All of the others were wonderful! We loved Olive at the Evergreen in Malahide. We also like the The White House in Blarney!
