Home again

We had nine days of just about perfect weather! The morning of our arrival was pretty foggy, so our trip to the Cliffs of Moher was a bust, but we had already been there on another trip so didn't feel too cheated!

I had roughed out an itinerary that we pretty much stuck to. Michele, your book was great for B&B's! (The restaurant/pub suggestions were good, but we never seemed to be near one at a meal time!)

Our B&B's were mixed. We started in Galway where our hostess wasn't home although we had called ahead. She appeared to have had a liquid lunch when she finally arrived. The room had a nice view of Galway Bay but was not the cleanest, and had a broken toilet seat.

We were to stay in Clifden in Atlantic View, but somehow our name didn't get into her book even though we had confirmed by email, and she had all the correspondence on her computer. The rooms looked lovely, but we ended up at her friend Bridie's house up the road, Bay View, where the room was fine. The house had a great view of the Atlantic, but our window looked out on the side parking lot.

We were next in Carbury House in Sligo, which had huge, lovely, clean rooms. We never had the chance to talk to our hosts much here but were very comfortable.

On to one of the best, Credo House!! I just can't say enough about Ann and Frankie. He won the awards for our most artistic breakfast and funniest host. I would stay with them again in a minute despite my fear of the little bridge! Tea and scones in front of the fire, and we had the porthole room!

Letterkenny was next, with a warm welcome from Nuala Duddy at Pennsylvania House. Her rooms were spotless and comfy, if a little overdone. She was friendly and full of information and we had two very comfortable nights there.

Abocurragh in Enniskillen was next and we loved it. The room was huge and clean and beautiful. Bernie worked in the morning but her daughter handled our breakfast with a deft hand. We became attached to Jack, their yellow lab.

Back in Galway we ended up at Four Winds in Salthill with another Bernie, who was a gracious hostess. My husband liked the house but I wasn't really comfortable there, can't say exactly why. Bed springs poked into me all night. She had many nicer rooms that were not used, so I wondered (to myself) why we were given the smallest room.

Finally, Ashgrove House in Bunratty. I found Frank and Sheila Tiernan to be terrific and funny hosts. Our room was a tad on the small side, but the bed was comfortable, we had outside and inside entrances, and finally, a box of tissues, washcloths and a bar of soap, all in the same bathroom!! They made us feel very welcome, and later, we drank with Frank at Mac's down the road. What a night!

More thoughts on our too-many-miles trip to follow!

Allison

Re: Home Again

Hi Allison,

Thanks for posting about your trip. That bridge going to Credo must be a leprechaun bridge! You can go another way to avoid it but that is the shortest way. Glad you enjoyed it and the porthole.

Can you email me the name of the first B&B in Galway with the broken toilet seat? All in the interest of research of course: Michele@IrelandYes.com

Will look forward to hearing more.

Michele

Re: Home again

Hi Allison: I too am a big fan of Credo House. The mention of the little bridge brought a huge smile to my face. We have a picture of our car crossing it.
