I'm back! And what a trip! It was the best vacation ever. My husband, my teenage son (who is into photography) and me.
We had planned on three nights in Dublin - but ended up only staying one. It was a nice city - but not as nice as London, and we really wanted to get to the countryside. We stayed at the Westin using American Express points. It was great and right across from Trinity College and Temple Bar, so great location. We did a quickie bus tour - then got the rental car and headed west.
We drove straight through to Adare, which was no big deal of a drive. Arrived in Adare on Easter Sunday, so a lot of shops were closed. Stayed at the Dunraven Arms. Very nice.
Next day Ring of Kerry and just lucked up on a fabulous guest hotel outside of Killglorin (sp?) on Lake Caragh. It was wonderful. Called the Carrig House.
Then on to Dingle Peninsula. I was surprised at how crowded and touristy Dingle was. We didn't stay long in town. Went on out to Slea Head. Then drove over the Connor Pass to The Shores, which Bill recommended. It was great. Annette was a wonderful hostess. Clean rooms. Comfortable. Great food. I actually preferred staying there rather than in the more crowded area of Dingle.
The next night was our splurge - Glin Castle. It was amazing and fabulous - and the three of us were the only ones staying there!! We had our own private butler! Worth the splurge.
Then took the ferry across river and headed to Cliffs of Moher. Spent the last night outside of Ennis at the Carnelly House. Very nice.
Oh - and guess how the trip started out? We got upgraded on Aer Lingus to first class (due to overbooking)!!! Talk about a treat!
Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and let us know about your trip. I too am just back from Ireland and catching up on the fourm. It sounds like a fabulous trip--and upgraded on Aer Lingus--what a great start.
Were you in Dingle on a weekend? That would account for the crowds in the shoulder season. I hope you had some of the good weather that Ireland enjoyed early in the year. By the time I arrived it had broken.
I hope that I can help with any future plans you have for travel to Ireland. Thanks again!

My trip to the Emerald Isle Here is a very brief summary of my recent trip. Had a rainy but wonderful trip in Ireland. Flew into Dublin, then headed straight to Powerscourt & Glendalough. Spent first 2 nights in Kilkenny, enjoying Kilkenny castle, Jerpoint & Kilcooley abbeys. Then went to Rock of Cashel (very windy) and Cahir Castle. Stayed in the wonderful Glencurrah House in Glenbeigh for the next 3 nights, while I saw Ring of Kerry, (loved the colorful towns of Sneem & Kenmare) Dingle, and Fungi the dolphin! Took the very handy Tarbert carferry across the river Shannon, then onto the Cliffs of Moher. Everyone please be careful at the cliffs. The day after I was there, a woman fell to her death. Also drove through the Burren, went to Clonmacnoise, (love the high crosses.) Can recommend Forest Park House B&B outside of Boyle. Spent my last 3 nights in Trim while I daytripped to Newgrange, Monasterboice, Trim castle & Butterstream gardens. Lots of rain but lots of wonderful memories too!

Oops! Oops! I meant to post my trip summary as a new topic but it ended up as a response to another topic. Sorry about that! -Carrie
Thanks for posting about your trip. If you want to you can post it again under your own separate heading. We appreciate the B&B recommendations. That's terrible about the woman falling at the cliffs. I hope you didn't see the accident. They are a majestic sight but caution is called for when you are on top of a 700 foot precipice.
Again, thanks for stopping by to tell about your trip. Feel free to add your comments and answer any of the other questions here. Interaction is such a nice part of planning a trip to Ireland.

Cliffs of Moher The fall happened while we were there. We heard that the woman was from Dublin, apparently took the bus to the Cliffs and committed suicide.
