Alright, I'm confused about this. I swear we went through customs and passport control before we boarded our Aer Lingus jet from Dublin to Boston. Our passport and customs declaration were stamped at the airport and then we were ushered into a waiting area. In Boston, we did not not have to stand in line for passport control. We did have to pass in our stamped customs declaration. However I read this service is not offered. Was I in the Twilight Zone. Thanks. I am questioning my sanity around this.
You would have gone through customs in Dublin but not immigration. They would have looked at your passport and customs form and stamped the form, which you then turned in on arrival in the US.
I flew out of Shannon in Oct. and went through customs and immigration there. When I arrived in NY there was nothing to go through at all. But the same service was not operating in Dublin yet. It was to start in Nov of this year but has been delayed till next year. Also Aer Lingus was not operating the customs/immigration scheme at all in Shannon. Only other airlines were.
You bet I'm confused. My passport was stamped by a gentleman wearing an official TSA uniform. We were not allowed back into the terminal at this point. No passport control in Boston. After reading the link to Dublin Airport posted by Tony, I wonder if this was part of the testing or training.

Since I wasn't there I will take your word for it. You would have passed through security so they wouldn't let you back into the terminal. Maybe you were a guinea pig? Anyway, you got home fine. You will have to see if it is any different next time.
I flew out of Dublin in 09/2009 and we went through Customs & Immigration in Ireland. There were TSA agents that stamped our passports and our customs paperwork. Once we went through that area we weren't allowed back into the main airport area. When we reached Philly we didn't have go through immigration just got our bags and on to the next flight.
We also cleared both customs and immigration at the Dublin airport when we left on September 29th. We had the same experience - when we reached Chicago we just got our bags and left the airport. The gent who cleared us and stamped out passports in Dublin was wearing a US Immigrations uniform/badge.
We did depart from the old terminal though, maybe that was the kicker...

Yeah! Thanks for the update. The old terminal was the pits. I hope they finally settled on a road system and all those orange cones are finally gone. Now that was totally confusing.
