We will be visiting Ireland for the first time. Hopefully during the last week of May this year. Do you think it is too early to make travel and hotel arrangements? Any suggestions regarding hotels? (3 -4 stars) in Dublin and Killarney area? We prefer to stay at hotels where we can walk everywhere. We will be there for about a week. Do you think the recent financial crisis in Ireland would affect our visit one way or the other? Will May still be cold? Sorry about so many questions. Thanks in advance.
Many Hotels etc, will not have set tariffs for next year yet and may be waiting for Decembers Budget to finalise there rates. Don't believe all you hear about the state of Ireland's economy, especially not from sources in the UK. May weather is unpredictable but it would depend what you call cold I would say that it should be into double figures, what we would call mild. I cannot comment on Dublin Hotels but as a good central spot in Killarney I like the Eviston House but opt for one of the upgraded rooms.

Welcome to my forum. Yes, I agree with Tony that it is too early for hotel reservations. After the first of the year will be plenty of time. As for airfares, you should be monitering them every day to find a good fare. Sign up for newsletters of the airlines that interest you. Then you will be advised of sales.
You can start researching other aspects of your trip. Read up and decide what you want to do and see in Ireland. If you know how many days you will be there and where you will fly in to and out of you can start on a itinerary.
Take a look at my Lodgings page for some recommended hotels. Don't discount guesthouses and B&Bs in the Killarney area. Some of them are very nice and walking distance to town. A few that are:
My weather page has a chart of average temperatures in Ireland. If you live in Miami you will feel cold. If you live in NY you probably won't. Generally Ireland has a mild climate.
At this point in time Ireland's financial problems won't affect your trip except that you will find some very good deals on accommodations and lower prices on food than in previous years.
Thanks a lot to both of you. Really appreciate it. The upcoming trip to Irish seems so surreal sometimes but I really am glad that we are going. Will probably post more questions when I can think of any. Thanks again for your replies.
Always happy to help. The planning process can seem strange but with help you can have a lot of fun with it. That is what the forum is for. Let us know if you have any other questions as your trip progresses. Feel free to post any itineraries. And remember, it takes several tries to get your itinerary right. Be patient.
